Defining your Personal Style for your Home Decor
Play with room styles
Formal- A formal space evokes a sense of order, using a strict placement of pieces to infuse the room with a certain sense of ceremony. Formal spaces have complete balance with nothing on the slant or the on an angle there is no slouch. Sofas must be straight and armchairs neatly facing inwards in straight lines.
Relaxed- The key to a relaxed space is not trying to hard. Textures and finishes are a bit rough and not slick or polished. A relax space has a little bit of disorder. Armchairs are at an angle, oval or circular coffee tables and side tables.
Oversize space- oversize rooms require larger pieces of furniture grouped together in vignettes.
Small space- small spaces require smaller furniture, more petite and streamlined with narrow arms fine thin legs, tight upholstery to avoid too much bulk in the room.
Your home should reflect the story of your life and be filled with things that make you feel connected whether it's with a memory, a mood, a value or how you wish to become in the future. There is nothing wrong with making your home reflect the person that you were, the person that you are, and the person that you hope to be.
There are no wrong answers. And there are very few rules to creative expression.
Understand basic design principles is Important. This gives you a good foundation to build on but from the mayor and the personality and the beauty of the space is up to you.
Have confidence in your creative expression. Give yourself time and patience that you deserve to ask questions, build your confidence, test new ideas, and venture through a discovery process.
Dig deep inside yourself. What symbolizes peace to you? what symbolizes joy? what symbolizes happiness? Make a list of these things and find objects and furnishings that bring those feelings to you each time you are in the room with them.
